With the investigation into Cory Monteith’s tragic death concluded, now comes the hard part for his family, friends and fans — getting used to life without him.
The Glee actor passed away in a Vancouver hotel on July 13 — a “tragic accident,” according to the B.C. Coroner’s service — after mixing heroin and alcohol. He was just 31 years old.
"He was very smart, he was very lovable. He was a joy to be with,” Cory’s father, Joe Monteith, tells Hello! Canada.
Cory, who was born in Calgary, Alta., and raised in Victoria, B.C., had made no secret of his issues with substance addiction, which he had struggled with since he was a teenager. But it recent months, it seemed as if he had turned a corner. He voluntarily checked himself into rehab in March and seemed healthier than ever during his week home in Canada. Cory was especially looking forward to starting back filming the fifth season of Glee, the hit musical series that co-stars his girlfriend Lea Michele.
In the days after his death, Lea issued a statement saying, she “has been grieving alongside his family and making appropriate arrangements with them.”
According to reports, Cory was cremated after a private service attended by Lea and close family members.
