Martha Stewart’s empire is undeniably impressive, but the 72-year-old magnate knows she’s not the only guru in the lifestyle business.
Speaking out about her up-and-coming competitor Gwyneth Paltrow -- who founded the wildly popular lifestyle website GOOP.com five years ago -- Martha admits she doesn't know the actress personally but hopes she is "authentic" in her business ventures.
"I haven't eaten at Gwyneth's house, and I have never seen how she lives," Stewart told Bloomberg TV on Tuesday. "But, if she's authentic, all the better – and I certainly hope she is. She really wants to be part of the lifestyle business."
"She's a charming, pretty person who has a feeling for lifestyle," she said. "She wants to be a lifestyle arbiter – fine. Good."
Martha added: "I think I started this whole category of lifestyle."
Last month, Gwyneth celebrated the five-year anniversary of GOOP, which advises on a variety of topics including fashion, cooking, hosting and health.
