Canada Post breaks from tradition with Prince George stamp

Less than one week away from Prince George's christening, Canada Post has announced they will feature the royal baby on a limited-edition stamp.

Breaking from tradition, the image shows George being cradled by his proud parents in an informal setting. Past commemorative snaps -- such as those of Queen Elizabeth II -- have typically featured individual royals in ceremonious poses.

The photo will be familiar to royal watchers; it's the very same "official" snap taken by the little prince's grandfather, Michael Middleton, this past summer.

"Canadian stamps continue to document moments in time and this stamp is a fitting addition to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's family album of Canadian stamps," Deepak Chopra, President and CEO of Canada Post, said in a statement.

"We know that Canadians -- as well as people across the world -- will enjoy sharing this piece of royal history for the future king."

This isn't the first time Canada Post has celebrated the Cambridges. In 2011, the Post issued two stamps featuring Prince William and Kate Middleton to commemorate that young couple's engagement and a third to mark their wedding. Unsurprisingly, they were the most popular issues of the year.

Canada Post says George is the youngest royal to make an appearance on the Canadian stamp.

The stamp will be unveiled on Oct. 22 for a limited time.
