'The Bachelor' Recap: Bungee jumping and ‘kicking it’ with Juan Pablo

Episode three of The Bachelor was relatively tame compared to last week’s dramatic bathroom meltdown. After enduring some questionable date activities (and steamy makeout sessions), the girls are beginning to get jealous. Needless to say, not everyone is handling the pressure so well.

The group date: Sporty Juan Pablo is determined to get the ladies into shape. After having Kat run a 5 km race last week, he tested the girls’ stamina yet again with a round of soccer at LA Galaxy stadium. None of The Bachelorettes appeared to have any soccer skills whatsoever, but they knew how to score on the pitch in other ways.

Fiesty lawyer Andi pulled Juan Pablo into the concession stand for a first kiss, while Canadian contestant Sharleen enjoyed a very public kiss with Juan in the middle of the soccer pitch, for all the girls to see (and gossip about).

But it was pediatric nurse Nikki’s subtler approach that made the biggest impression on el Bachelor. After the pair had a mature conversation about their hopes and fears, Nikki walked away with a sweet hug and a rose – to Andi and Sharleen’s dismay.

‘Leap of faith’: Juan had a traditional (and slightly awkward) one-on-one date with 21-year-old single-mom Cassandra, but the most talked-about outing of the episode was a tandem bungee jump excursion with an understandably terrified Chelsie.

After entertaining a few “leap of faith” metaphors, the tearful blond decided that Juan’s heart – and their upside-down, post-jump smooch – was totally worth it.

Sidenote: Juan Pablo may be our most liberal rose-giver in Bachelor history; every single one of his one-on-one dates so far have produced a rose for the lady du jour.

The pool party: Last week it was a nude photoshoot; this week, it’s a pool party. Juan Pablo likes his ladies to show some skin, so after arriving unannounced to cook a delicious Venezuelan breakfast (while the girls hid their unprepared morning faces in horror), it was off to the pool for a day of fun in the sun.

Not-so-shy Sharleen: Self-proclaimed introvert Sharleen proved she was anything but this week, as the Ottawa opera singer boldly stole not one, but two makeout sessions from our bachelor – while the other girls watched on seething with rage. Clare, who snagged the first date on week one, couldn’t take the heat and broke down to Juan Pablo. And next week, we see Sharleen stirring up even more trouble…

The next episode of The Bachelor airs Monday, Jan. 27 at 8 p.m.
