'The Bachelor' recap: A not-so-happy birthday in New Zealand

This week on The Bachelor, the remaining contestants headed to picturesque New Zealand where they tried their hand at ‘zorbing,’ hung out on the Lord of the Rings' set of Hobbiton, and partook in many a makeout session under waterfalls/geysers/hot springs/[insert gorgeous New Zealand scenery here].

“I’m happy you’re here,” unfussy Juan Pablo seemed to whisper to every single one of his bachelorettes.

Things get steamy with Andi: For the first one-on-one date, Juan took fan-favourite Andi to explore Lake Taupo’s breathtaking canyons and caves. Wearing a stylish black one-piece, the 26-year-old federal prosecutor seemed to finally be in her element with El Bachelor, as the day portion of the date culminated with passionate kissing under a waterfall.

Later, the pair enjoyed a romantic dinner while geysers exploded around them. More besos ensued, and Andi was given a rose.

Getting the ball rolling: It seems like we spoke too soon when we said that Kat’s 5-km rave/run was the strangest Bachelor date ever. After sharing a picnic lunch and playing a round of rugby, bikini-clad Kat, Cassandra, Chelsie, Nikki, Renee, and Sharleen rolled around the New Zealand hillside in giant inflatable balls filled with water — an activity called Ogo or “zorbing” — as part of their group date.

Clare and Juan Pablo talk it out: Clare earned the next one-on-one date with Juan, where the two had much to discuss – namely, where they stood after their complicated, 4:00 am ocean tryst in Vietnam. Clare expected an apology from our sheepish Don Juan, but the single father shrewdly avoided confrontation by kissing all her troubles away (we are starting to see a pattern).

Worst. Birthday. Ever.: Poor Candice. After giving our Canadian gal Sharleen a rose during the cocktail party, Juan Pablo pulled the single mom aside to tell her she was one of his “special ones” before sending her packing – on her birthday, no less. He told her, ”I wish we were in the same chapter.” Needless to say, the former NBA dancer, who turned 22, did not turn into a bride-to-be.

Next stop, Miami, where it looks like Sharleen isn’t feeling it anymore with Juan Pablo…
