She’s never been shy about revealing her celebrity crushes, especially to the stars themselves. But in the years since etalk correspondent Jessi Cruickshank burst onto Canadian television as co-host of MTV’s The Hills After Show, the hilarious reporter has kept the details of her own love life under wraps. Now, the Vancouver-raised TV personality says she’s been in love all the while, with longtime boyfriend Evan, and the pair is engaged.

“I tried to keep it quiet,” says Jessi, who now lives with her fiancé in Los Angeles. “But my lovely, loyal, supportive viewers would see Instagram photos, zoom in and ask, ‘Is that a ring on your finger?’”
When she first read that MTV was looking to launch in Canada in 2006, Jessi had no idea that her dream job would lead her to her future husband as well. While visiting her father in New York, she had to work quickly to put together an audition tape. Luckily he had a friend who worked at a film production company, who arranged for an editor to help. “I knocked on the door expecting the editor to be an older man, and it was this young, very tall, cute guy,” she says. Their meeting was clearly meant to be, and with Evan’s help Jessi got the gig. The next time she was in the Big Apple, he suggested they celebrate her new job over dinner at Café Habana on Manhattan’s Lower East Side.
“I remember being excited about the restaurant because I had just seen pictures of Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz eating there. That was a big deal for me at the time. Clearly I had my priorities straight!” she tells Hello! with a laugh. Though they lived in different cities, Jessi and Evan remained friends before starting to date in 2008.
He popped the question on Christmas morning in front of her family. “I was in fluorescent yellow, polka-dotted pants and an ugly sweater. I had no makeup on and my hair was in this crazy side ponytail…I always imagined that when I got proposed to that I would be flawless and glamorous, but it was the complete opposite of that.”

Just as she does on camera, Jessi will be sharing the spotlight on the big day. She’s already in the midst of planning their June wedding, and her pals were the ones who helped her choose where to have it. “We decided on LA because all of my friends in Canada said, ‘You better get married in LA so we can come for a vacation.’”
With the location settled, Jessi has plenty more on her to-do list. Over the next few months we’ll be turning the tables on the interviewer, asking her to fill us in on all of her experiences as a bride-to-be in an exclusive blog for Hello! Canada.
