Diary of the Week: Eleanor McCain and the Luckee Opening

BY Amoryn Engel

It was the closest of friends and family that gathered at the historic Carlu to fete the glittering Eleanor McCain, who was celebrating the release of her newest CD, Runaway. Canadian personality Seamus O’Regan got lots of laughs as he took to the stage in the Round Room to introduce the songstress, a close personal friend and fellow east coaster. Eleanor, stunning in an incredibly intricate Reem Acra gown, wowed the crowd with a fabulous performance. The album consists of love songs that include a cover of John Legend’s “Save Room.” McCain admitted that she absolutely loves “cheesy love songs.”

Dim Sum lovers one and all came out for the jam-packed opening of Luckee, the new brunch staple at the Soho Metropolitan Hotel in downtown Toronto. This is the latest and greatest offering from the amazing Susur Lee, best known for his upscale mix of stunning cuisine and divine decor. The party was awash with too-cool-for-school types, likely fans and followers of Chef’s gorgeous sons (society darlings in their own right), who have inevitably been dining at King St. staple Lee for years. This party was off the hook, and the small bites were as well. No doubt, each and every guest felt Luckee to have made the cut! Chinese chic at its best.
