Diary of the Week: Dior opening, NXNE garden party, Smut Soiree and WorldPride gala

By Amoryn Engel

It was a night of fabulousness at the exclusive, invitation-only event to celebrate the opening of the sparkling new Dior boutique at Holt Renfrew in Yorkdale Mall. Guests with a passion for the iconic brand were invited to shop an exclusive assortment of Dior handbags and accessories while enjoying caviar canapés, macarons and Moet & Chandon champagne. A portion of proceeds from the fantastically French event will support the efforts of Artists for Peace and Justice.

Rosedale was a'rocking this past weekend as guests came out in droves for the second annual NXNE Right to Play Backyard concert. Robert and Margaret MacLellan welcomed revellers to their beautiful garden for special acoustic performances by Juno Award winners Serena Ryder, Gord Downie and Matt Good. Guests were gobsmacked as gold medalist Rosie MacLennan rose to the challenge and did a backflip on the lawn for a guest who offered $5K if she completed the challenge - and of course she did! Guests noshed on lobster rolls and more from Pusateri’s while sipping on special cocktails and Mill Street ales. Over $200,000 was raised for Right to Play programs, bringing sport to children all over the world.

The ninth annual SMUT Soirée had guests red-carpet ready from the word go! Trendsetting stunners Amanda Blakely and Ashleigh Dempster hosted hundreds of pretty young things at the Evergreen Brickworks in Toronto, looking for the latest in Hollywood gossip from the master herself, Lainey (a.k.a. Elaine Lui). With help from Rimmel, Skinny Cow, H&M and Vitamin Water, guests were looking and feeling their best!

The kick-off gala for WorldPride 2014 certainly went off with a bang - no surprise given the great Salah Bachir was at the helm. The awe-inspiring event, held at the Arcadian Court, also honoured global leadership with the presentation of the WorldPride Awards. Needless to say, an impressive collection of influencers were blown away by k.d. lang's hair raising performance. Proceeds will benefit Camp fYrefly, Canada's only national leadership retreat for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified youth. Fabulous from beginning to end!
