Martha Stewart on Blake Lively's Preserve: 'Why would she want to be me if she could be an actress?'

One might not think of Martha Stewart and Blake Lively as obvious candidates for friendship, but the two have been pals for years – and now Martha’s weighing in on Blake’s new lifestyle website, Preserve.

Blake has made no secret of her desire to become the “next Martha Stewart,” but when asked about this 72-year-old Martha responded, “Let her try.”

“I don’t mean that facetiously!” she added, laughing. “I mean, it’s stupid, she could be an actress! Why would you want to be me if you could be an actress? I just did a movie yesterday, though – I can’t even tell you about it – but I want to be Blake Lively.”

Blake Lively and Martha Stewart became friends after the actress moved into her New York neighbourhood

The duo’s friendship was rather serendipitous, as budding lifestyle guru Blake moved into Martha’s New York neighbourhood. Once she was living around the corner, Martha told the Huffington Post, "they started to come over, not to borrow sugar, but just as friends.

“In a way, [Blake’s] kind of shy – not shy on the screen, at all, if you’ve seen any of Blake’s movies – but very shy in person,” she said of the former Gossip Girl star.

Blake launched her lifestyle website earlier this month

“But she’s a baker and a homemaker and now she’s starting her own blog… I haven’t seen it yet.”

Blake recently claimed her wedding “was becoming a disaster” before she and Ryan asked her “idol” Martha to oversee the event in South Carolina.

The blonde beauty also admitted she had no problem being compared to Martha or Gwyneth Paltrow’s website Goop.

“I’m always the first person to defend Gwyneth Paltrow,” she said. “Or any woman in a position of power, like Martha Stewart or Oprah, who gets burned because they have paved the path for so many other women who are doing something they believe in.”
