Diary of the Week: Canadian Filmmaker's Party and Greta Constantine's Fine Young Savages

By Amoryn Engel

Mother Nature cooperated in a big way for fashion label Greta Constantine’s end-of-summer bash. The jam-packed event was once again held at the Annex mansion of Michael Cooper and Krystal Koo. Toronto’s best-dressed set partied poolside at the fantastically themed “Fine Young Savages” brouhaha. With a pig roast positioned on the grass and tiki torches lining the expansive garden, there was little question regarding the evening’s theme. Designer darlings Kirk Pickersgill and Stephen Wong welcomed hundreds of revellers, including Dean and Dan Caten of DSquared fame, to view a sprinkling of pieces from their spring/summer 2015 collection. The big bash also served to raise awareness for Rethink Breast Cancer with donations being welcomed to honour Susan Alvaro, the late mother of PR doll Amanda Alvaro.

For those looking to get their TIFF-on early, they headed to the Spoke Club for the 9th Annual Canadian Filmmakers’ Party, hosted by The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television and eTalk. Industry insiders and resident coolios had the chance to mix and mingle at the packed-to-the-rafters bash with the likes of Jian Gomeshi, Jason Priestley, Katie Boland and Robert Lantos. Skyy vodka cocktails and Mill Street Organic brew helped parched revellers beat the heat and the mini-poutines were a huge hit. How very Canadian!
