Will Arnett on Toronto Maple Leafs fans: ‘More passionate, more loyal, more resilient, more together’

A die-hard hockey fan is passionate, determined and unflinchingly loyal.

Among this dedicated legion of NHL enthusiasts is comedian Will Arnett, who teamed up with the Toronto Maple Leafs to create a video honouring Leafs Nation, of which he is a proud member.

“You know who we are? We are a nation within a city. We are a million stories told from countless voices,” the 44-year-old Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles star says in the voiceover introduction. “If you call us just a bunch of fans, you’d be missing the point. Because we’re more than just that. [We’re] more passionate, more loyal, more resilient, more together. This is who we are.”

It is a deeply passionate homage, devoid of Will's usual punchline or joke. “You know something? People say that Toronto Maple Leafs are at the centre of the hockey universe. You know why? Because we are,” Will adds.

The actor has two children, Archie and Abel, with ex-wife Amy Poehler, who recently opened up about their split.

“You know who we are? We are a nation within a city. We are a million stories told from countless voices. If you were to call us just a bunch of fans, you’d be missing the point. Because we’re more than that. More passion, more loyal, more resilient, more together. This is who we are. And for the players who’ve worn this symbol – the greats going back almost 100 years, to the players who wear it just as proudly today – they’re cheered on by more fans around the world than any other team on the planet. I guess it is fitting that as fans we come together from pretty much any nation there is. But where this symbol is concerned? We’re all part of just one nation: Leafs Nation. You know something? People say that Toronto Maple Leafs are at the centre of the hockey universe. You know why? Because we are. This symbol is the oldest and most significant badge in the sport. The pride, honour and courage it represents carries on right here, right now. Guys, there’s only one thing left to say, and that’s ‘Go Leafs Go.’”
