When citizens celebrate their nation’s birthday on Canada Day in a few weeks, Philadelphia-native Will Smith might just partake in the festivities by toasting his temporary home. The 46-year-old actor took to social media recently to spread his love of Toronto.
Will, who is currently in Hogtown filming the action flick Suicide Squad, shared a photo of himself gazing up at the iconic CN Tower on Facebook. “Chillin’ in the hotel. Lovin’ the 6”, he captioned the photo. 'The 6’ is a nickname made popular by Toronto-born rapper Drake.
Will is one of many Hollywood heavyweights currently calling Canada home. Fellow Suicide Squad castmates Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Cara Delevingne and Ben Affleck have all been spotted filming on the streets of Toronto and also enjoying the city’s nightlife. Among other outings, Jared Leto has been spotted at vegetarian restaurant Fresh on a number of occasions, while the cast took to nightclub Maison Mercer for a well-deserved night off and impromptu performance of "Brand New Funk."
Out on the West Coast, Ryan Reynolds has been hard at work on the set of Deadpool in his native Vancouver, where he even had a set visit from Mayor Gregor Robertson, while X-Men’s team of superheroes, including Jennifer Lawrence and Michael Fassbender, are perfecting their special powers in Montreal.
Aside from posing with Toronto landmarks and scaling buildings in character, the Fresh Prince of Bel Air star is also gearing up to welcome a special visitor later this month. Willow Smith, Will’s daughter with wife Jada Pinkett Smith, will be in Toronto on June 18 for a performance at the NXNE music festival. The 14-year-old singer, who was recently announced as the new face of Marc Jacobs has made waves in the music industry with hits like ‘Whip My Hair’ and ‘21st Century Girl’. Her show at the Danforth Music Hall will be her first in Canada, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see proud dad Will in attendance, cheering his daughter on from the sidelines.
