Diary of the Week: Spoke on the Water and Vivica A. Fox's birthday fête

By Erica Cupido and Jessica Pollack

After festivities in Los Angeles, Vivica A. Fox touched down in Toronto to unveil the latest collection from jewelry brand Candy Ice and mark her 51st birthday in style. The Kill Bill star arrived at Muzik Beach in a feathered Naeem Khan dress and Rene Caovilla heels to join TV stars and friends for a celebratory dinner al fresco. As the sun set, guests were delighted by a pink birthday cake frosted to match the actress’ outfit. Throughout the evening, Vivica’s turn in Independence Day - a nod to her upcoming appearance in the 2016 sequel - played on screens. Another personal touch came courtesy of attendees’ donations to Best Buddies in place of gifts - the children's charity for which Vivica raised $70,000 as a contestant on the latest season of The Celebrity Apprentice. And the festivities don't end at Pearson Airport. Next stop? Montego Bay, Jamaica!

When the prestigious Spoke Club sailed into a partnership with the historic Island Yacht Club, it was bound to make a splash. The former, an exclusive 1,600-member downtown hub for the creative class, has been serving Toronto innovators for more than a decade, while the latter offers a welcome refuge from the city and networking galore with a heated pool, tennis courts and social events. To launch Spoke on the Water at the Island Yacht Club, influencers donned their coolest prep and gathered at the beautifully manicured IYC to nibble on sliders, sushi and strudel while sipping rum fruit cocktails. Spoke members were also given a taste of fun to come, mingling and playing lawn games while gazing back at the buzzing Toronto skyline in the distance.
