The Boy Next Door star Ryan Guzman was hoping his beloved New York Yankees would deliver a special birthday win during Monday night’s (Sept. 21) game against the Toronto Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre. And though his team lost — the Jays beat the Yankees 4-2 in the first night of the three-game series — Ryan happily rang in his 28 th birthday with a few of his sports-loving friends in Toronto.
“I went to see a baseball game with Greg Grunberg, he got the nice hookup,” Ryan told Hello! Canada about watching the game with his Heroes Reborn co-star. “We got to go on the field in the dugout and hung out with Jose Bautista. We’re actually going to go back today and hang out with them again. I can’t wait!"
Ryan, who walked the Golden Globes red carpet with his The Boy Next Door co-star Jennifer Lopez, was decked out in a Yankees hat as he took in the game and posted photos to Instagram while indulging in typical game night fare throughout the night. “Celebrating the birthday best way I know how. A lot of food and some baseball #GoYankees,” he captioned the photo.
Toronto fans were delighted to see the Step Up All In star in town, and even surprised the actor with birthday gifts after the game. “I have the best fans in the world,” Ryan tweeted, thanking one admirer for the unexpected birthday love.
Even though his team didn’t win, Ryan said that he was just happy to take in the game on this very special day. “ I’m a Yankees fan—but I’m a baseball fan! ” he told Hello! Canada. “I played baseball most of my life and I just love watching sports.”
