Shakira teaches Milan to read the countries in South America

Shakira’s eldest son Milan is as precocious as he is adorable, and the two-year-old has been known to show some seriously impressive reading skills. In a new video on Instagram, the proud "Waka Waka" singer gives a glimpse of the duo learning South American countries, even the more difficult words in the batch like "Uruguay" and "Venezuela.”

Clearly brimming with pride at her young son’s talent, Shakira is heard cooing "Well done!" in her native Spanish at the end of the clip.

Little Milan, meanwhile, reels off the names of South American countries to perfection, only stumbling at the beginning with "Bolivia".

Shakira brimmed with pride as she shared a video of her two-year-old learning how to read

“Studying South America with Mama, going for Chile and the Guianas next...," Shakira, 38, captioned the post. The Colombian singer, who also has an eight-month-old baby son with her Spanish partner Gerard Piqué, is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and one of the charity’s global representatives.

Earlier this year Shakira spoke about the need for world leaders to invest in early childhood development at a conference in New York. She outlined how scientific research showed that activities like reading and playing with young children from an early age support healthier brain development.

“More than 100 million children are out of school and 159 million boys and girls under five are physically and cognitively stunted due to a lack of care and proper nutrition," said the singer.

“Millions of kids will be born into the same cycle of poverty and lack of opportunity. UNICEF and I have joined forces and are here today because investing early in children is an urgent matter and there isn’t another moment to lose.”

“I’m sometimes a tiger mom, sometimes a worried mom,” admitted Shakira

The doting mom has also launched an app called Grow, which offers articles on parenting, ideas for play and advice on raising children.

“I’m always online looking for advice and learning about being a mother,” Shakira told Yahoo when asked what had inspired her to make the app. “I know there are other moms who are also looking for tips and suggestions. That’s the idea behind it. Moms can use the app to find ideas and support, and teachers can also use it to guide and plan their curriculum to help kids learn.”

Then asked what kind of a mother she thought she was, Shakira replied: “I’m sometimes a tiger mum, sometimes a worried mum. And sometimes I’m a guilty mum.”
