Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez divorcing: 'We move forward with love'

Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez have filed for divorce after five years together. The A-list pair, who announced their split on Tuesday (Oct. 27), released a joint statement saying: “We move forward with love and respect for one another and the shared focus of what is best for our son.”

Their little boy Maceo is two, while the Oscar-winning actress also has a seven-year-old daughter called Nahla from her relationship with Gabriel Aubry.

Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez cited irreconcilable differences

According to People magazine, the duo had a pre-nuptial agreement and both are seeking joint custody of their son. Halle has asked them to share the costs of raising Maceo as per the terms of their pre-nup. Her filing also says that her estranged husband be required to ask for permission to take their child out of California.

Meanwhile, the French actor has hired divorce lawyer Laura Wasser, famous for representing clients like Kim Kardashian, Ryan Reynolds and Heidi Klum. Olivier has asked for the issue of spousal support to be settled at a later date.

Halle and Olivier were last seen together in February 2015

The actress is already paying considerable sums of child support to French Canadian male model Gabriel. She applied to have the amount drastically reduced in 2014, but her ex argued that he needed the money because he was unable to work for six months after a violent altercation with Olivier.

The two men had been arguing over Halle and Olivier’s plan to move to France, with Gabriel objecting because of the issue of access to Nahla.

The pair after their engagement in 2012

Halle and Olivier met in 2010 on the set of their film Dark Tide and got engaged two years later when he presented her with a large emerald ring.

After two other marriages to baseball player David Justice and singer Eric Benet, the Hollywood beauty had ruled out walking down the aisle again. But falling in love with Olivier gave her a change of heart.

“Who knew?!” she laughed when asked about the topic in an interview. “I swore it off, right? Never say never people!”

Their wedding on 13 July, 2013 when she was six months pregnant was an idyllic but discreet affair at a chateau in his native France.
