The new Justin Bieber emoji has caused a social media frenzy

By Sarah Walker

It seems fans think Justin Bieber is just as dreamy in emoji form, as his new avatar has caused a social media frenzy. The little icon features brown eyes and a swoop of blond hair hanging to one side just like the 21-year-old star. Justin is one of a number of performers transformed into cartoons ahead of the BRIT Awards.

This isn't the first time unique emojis have been created in honour of a big event. Star Wars-themed characters were unveiled before the launch of The Force Awakens.

Sadly, these fun creations aren't permanent and will run their course after the awards show. But until then, using specific hashtags like #JustinBieberBRITs and #ColdplayBRITs causes the adorable renderings to show up in your messages.

The BRITs is one of many high-profile activities and appearances Justin will make in the coming year. He's set to perform at the upcoming GRAMMYs (Monday Feb. 15 at 8 pm EST/5 pm PT on City) and the "Sorry" singer is also preparing to embark on a world tour. All three singles from his latest album Purpose have reached the number-one spot on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

The Stratford native recently told iHeartRadio that he credits maturity for his most recent successes.

"I think I've grown over the years just mentally, physically, spiritually, [and] getting better at what I do. I think that if you're not growing, you're not living...What a crazy road it's been, and a long road ahead of me -- probably until [my] 70s or 80s I'll be doing this. But thank you so much for playing my new album."

The "What Do You Mean" singer is in good company at the BRITs. Other A-list nominees and performers who have been emojified include fellow Canuck The Weeknd, Coldplay and James Bay, though we have yet to see an icon for high-profile celebs like Adele and One Direction.
