Like most women, Mindy Kaling jumps into body-shaping under garments before a big night on the town. The down-to-earth star didn't shy away from sharing a picture of herself, Spanx and all, getting red-carpet ready for the 2016 Costume Designers Guild Awards. “Awards Show prep. America’s sweetheart,” wrote the comedienne on Instagram. In the candid shot the 36-year-old can be seen applying deodorant while standing in her trailer dressed in the brand's Slim Cognito high-waisted mid-thigh shorts and a strapless corset.
She later slipped into a custom made floor-length gown, complete with Swarovski crystals on the bust. Salvador Perez, who works as the costume designer on her hit series The Mindy Project, created the stunning dress. During the awards show, the actress presented the trophy for Outstanding Period Television Series to costume designer Ellen Mirojnick for her work on The Knick.

Salvador has worked closely alongside Mindy since the premiere of her show in 2012. Speaking about the demands of being a full-time costume designer for television, Salvador revealed, “I [have] probably put Mindy in close to 1,000 outfits over three years." He added that twenty percent of what the actress wears on screen is custom made by the designer and his team. “[Mindy] changes 10 to 15 times an episode. In one she had 23 changes,” he revealed to Fashionista.
Mindy is staying mum on what she'll be wearing come Oscar night. Her film Inside Out, in which she lends her voice to the character of Disgust, is nominated for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Screenplay. Fans will have to wait to see if she calls on Salvador for another bespoke creation, but now that she's let her pre-show regimen out of the bag, Spanx are guaranteed to be part of her look.
