Ryan Gosling adds dog rescuer to his heroic resume

As if his fans need another reason to swoon over Ryan Gosling! According to reports, the actor came to the rescue of a dog that darted into a busy street. The Canadian star jumped out of his car, scooped up the canine and carried it to safety.

The pooch-in-peril event happened when Ryan and his longtime love Eva Mendes were on their way back from getting take-out during a romantic weekend away. Entertainment Tonight reports that the couple and their one-year-old daughter Esmeralda jetted off to Palm Springs to celebrate Eva’s 42nd birthday. The family of three are said to have stayed at an estate once owned by Frank Sinatra. The late crooner’s 4,500 square-foot property was built in 1947 and is available to rent for a hefty USD$2,600 a night.

The getaway comes on the heels of Ryan's hilarious appearances during awards season. He had audiences LOLing at both the SAG Awards and Oscars with the witty banter he shared with co-presenters Brad Pitt and Russell Crowe.

The thespian loves working in front of the camera, but his role at home is hands down his favourite gig. Fatherhood has come easy for Ryan, who told Hello! last year that being a dad is “not rocket science.” And as much love and devotion as he has for his baby girl, the star is just as besotted with her mom, Eva. “I know that I’m with the person I’m supposed to be with,” he says, adding that the only quality he looks for in a woman is "that she’s Eva Mendes. There’s nothing else I’m looking for.”

This isn't the first time the Cornwall, Ont.-native put on his Superman cape. In 2012, while strolling in New York, Ryan saw a woman wander into a busy intersection and pulled her back just in time to avoid being hit by a cab. The British journalist, who was not accustomed to American road rules, later tweeted, “I literally, LITERALLY just got saved from a car by Ryan Gosling. Literally. That actually just happened.” A year prior, the Drive star spotted a brawl in the middle of the street and broke it up by settling the dispute between an artist and a thief. Ryan later shared his embarrassment over getting involved, stating ‘I should have just kept my nose out of it.’
