Jillian Harris is in full-on mom-to-be mode. From researching to cutting back on work commitments, the expectant star is doing everything she can to prepare for motherhood later this year. So naturally, when Hello! caught up with the Love It Or List It Vancouver host on the set of her Mr. Clean’s Dirty Little Secrets campaign in New York, talk quickly turned to all-things baby.
“This baby is already so spoiled!” exclaimed the Canadian beauty, who was quick to note how attentive her longtime love Justin Pasutto has been since the couple learned of the pregnancy in December. Here, Jillian opens up about her loving partner, late-night cravings, baby-proofing and how she is learning to say "No" to work opportunities.
How are you preparing for motherhood? In the first trimester we were researching and planning and ordering, and then in the second trimester I just started to feel normal and I had tons of energy and I was like, "I’m going to enjoy these next few months and try to not overwhelm ourselves." Justin is actually the one who has been doing all of the research on all the gadgets and strollers and when it comes time to order everything, he has a huge list ready for me.
With so much on the go, how are you balancing work and time for yourself? I’m actually trying to get as much work in as I can, and [at the same time] I'm trying to get as much sleep in as I can. We are saying “No” to a lot of things. We just got a request today to do a photo shoot and I was trying to schedule it in and I was like, “I don’t need to do this!” I have four days left of my vacation time and then I’m not going to have another vacation until I have this baby so I said, "I’m just going to say no, because this is not a priority." So I think I'm just saying “No” more, resting more and just picking my battles.
How has Justin been during the pregnancy so far? He’s been awesome. He’s very involved with what I’m experiencing. He is a night owl and I actually go to bed really early but I’ve been having late-night cravings and he will come in and say, “Grilled cheese sandwich?” and I’m like "Yes please!” and he also made me pancakes at 12:00 in the morning.
If I wake up and he’s gone he will have a little note that says, “Don’t forget to take your vitamins" and he will have all of the vitamins laid out for me. He’s been really involved and his brother and his family and everybody are so in love with the baby already. This baby is already so spoiled!
What kind of father do you think he'll be? One of the first things that made me fall in love with Justin is how great he is with kids. It just melted my heart. He is very consistent with his parenting. He used to be a coach and a life guard and he’s been in sports his whole life so he’s just very consistent and very responsible. With Nacho [the couple's dog] or with the house, he’s very sure and clear with what he wants and he's very organized. He already told me that he wants his own diaper bag because he knows mine is going to be a disaster. I think he’s going to be a great dad and a very involved dad.
