Diary of the week: Steven Sabados, Taste of Toronto, Nordstrom, Pandamonium, S/ Imaginarium and more

Steven Sabados gathered a selection of industry influencers and close friends for a cocktail celebrating the launch of the new S&C Home Collection. Hosted by BMW Toronto, the space was transformed with cozy living room vignettes that reflected both Steven's edgier accents and his former life partner Chris Hyndman's classic style. Kim Crawford wines provided the tipple for guests like Jeanne Beker, Glen Baxter and Mary Jo Eustace and Citizen Catering offered up a selection of tapas prepared on site. Meanwhile, Taste of Toronto took over the historic Fort York with another year of sumptuous selections catered to the foodie crowd - and it looked like attendees might have had to roll themselves out of the VIP opening night. Top restaurants like Nota Bene, Rasa, The Drake, Fat Pasha, Mamakas and Richmond Station will each be serving up a handful of selections all weekend, from baklava ice cream to egg yolk ravioli and sticky Chinese pork ribs, while celebrity chefs like Chuck Hughes, Jamie Kennedy, David Lee and Mark McEwan make appearances.

As Nordstrom prepares for a Canadian takeover, the luxury retailer took over the spectacular home of Julia West and Richard Wernham in Toronto's lavish Rosedale neighbourhood for a soiree that won't soon be forgotten. With the pool as its centrepiece, synchronized swimmers captivated the crowd of 300 as they nibbled on scallop crudo amid a dazzling array of blooms. The biggest toast of the night? Celebrating the beneficiaries of funds from Nordstrom's upcoming store opening galas. The biggest surprise? A performance by The Tenors! Across the city at architectural hotspot the Queen Richmond Centre, S/ magazine's Summer Imaginarium was a fanciful fete that delighted partygoers with a Chinatown-inspired entrance, fashion and beauty installations and games (think skee ball and a life-size light brite board). A selection of specialty cocktails washed down clean offerings from Kupfert + Kim as guests primped and preened courtesy of Moroccan Oil, Yves Saint Laurent and Salvatore Ferragamo.

WWF's Pandamonium brought hundreds of thoughtful young revelers together for a very important cause: protecting wildlife. The throngs that descended on Andrew Richard Designs included model Yasmin Warsame, actors Dan Levy and Meghan Heffern and Dragon Michele Romanow, who were treated to a live performance by Juno winners the Strumbellas and 3D augmented reality experiences with polar bears. The VIP cocktail was flooded with nibbles by MasterChef Canada's Claudio Aprile while DJ Brendan Canning and soprano Lisa Di Maria set the musical tone for the evening. It was a sports lover's dream come true as the All-Star Gala took over the Arcadian Court for a semi-formal evening of fundraising and fun, which saw more than 1,000 young professionals and celebrities mingling with dozens of professional athletes, including two 2016 ambassadors: Canadiens defenceman PK Subban to Maple Leafs centre Peter Holland. With funds benefiting SickKids and the Montreal Children's Hospital, guests were all too happy to bid at the silent auction before busting a move on the dance floor.

Last but not least, Toronto's arts crowd gathered to celebrate artists like event Art Director Justin Broadbent, Thrush Holmes and Kathryn Macnaughton at the Gardiner Museum's inaugural SMASH party. Hosted by the Young Patron's Circle, revelers feasted on Food Dudes' Big Mac sliders, wagyu chili dogs, freezies and other classics while taking in a classic schoolyard Double Dutch by the Lincoln Leapers, plus a chiptune set during which James Kirkpatrick used '90s toys like a Game Boy to create sounds and beats. We'd have to say that, in line with the evening's theme, this party was an instant classic.
