Rose Byrne on motherhood: 'You have this huge responsibility'

New mom Rose Byrne has opened up about the pressures of parenthood and the moment she realized she had turned into her parents. The actress welcomed her first child, son Rocco, in February.

In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, the X-Men actress said: "You have this huge responsibility you didn't have before - there's someone you have to keep alive. I also like to think Rocco has brought out better qualities in me."

The 37-year-old, who has been in a relationship with fellow actor Bobby Cannavale since 2012, revealed how their friends are "sick" of them talking about their six-month-old son. She joked: "We're like, 'Ooh, he wasn't doing that yesterday – that's amazing!'

"I'm pretty sure everyone who knows us is sick of it."

She also revealed that her parents were her first stop in seeking advice when taking care of her baby son, saying: "I was already becoming my parents, even before I had Rocco. You know how that happens? One day, you're like, 'I've turned into my parents!'"

The new mom joked she had barely left the house after giving birth.

The star recently played an expecting mother-of-two in Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, and joked that she related to her onscreen character with baby Rocco. She said: "I can relate to how long it takes to leave the house. That's a huge joke in this one. All that stuff 'bring this, bring that, I forgot this, I forgot that, don't wake her, she's awake.'

"That whole sequence couldn't be more true. I laugh at how long it takes and how true that was."

The Sydney-born star also chatted about the weeks following Rocco's birth, telling News Corp that she was in a "fog" following the birth. She said: "I'm still in a fog, I haven't even left my apartment in three months. It takes an hour and forty-five minutes to get out of the house with a baby, and by the time I'm ready, I'm exhausted. I'm done, I'm going back in. I don't care!"
