Blake Lively on why she joined the Women’s March: 'We are all equal'

By Sarah Walker

A week after Blake Lively spoke about girl power and self-esteem at the People’s Choice Awards, the 29-year-old has posted some powerful comments on why she joined the Women’s March in New York City on Saturday.

"I marched for my daughters, for my friends, for strangers, for myself, for Phoebe here in this picture who I met as she motivated everyone she came across," she wrote on Instagram. "My march wasn't driven by hate. It was rooted in a very simple fact -- we are all equal. I believe everyone can agree on that. Thank you to everyone who marched all over the world. I felt so hopeful and deeply grateful. #whyimarch."

CELEBRITIES WHO SUPPORTED THE WOMEN'S MARCH

Of course she was speaking about the two girls she shares with Ryan Reynolds: James, 1, and Ines, three months old.

Her words were shared alongside an image of her posing alongside a young girl holding a sign that said, “Let's make America kind again."

Later in the day, the Shallows star met up with her Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants co-star Amber Tamblyn on the streets of the Big Apple.

Amber captured the moment and highlighted the image with the caption, “Sister #2 located in NYC march! #womensmarchnyc”

Another Sisterhood cast member, America Ferrera, took part in the Washington march alongside two of her Ugly Betty co-stars: Mark Indelicato and Ana Ortiz.

"I march for family! I found my #UglyBetty family @therealanaortiz & @markindelicato here at the #womensmarchdc and we're here celebrating @plannedparenthood with @funnyordie & @ronnaandbeverly #fullheart.”

She also spoke at the event, saying: "Our dignity, our character, our rights have all been under attack, and a platform of hate and division assumed power yesterday... But the president is not America. His cabinet is not America. Congress is not America. We are America. And we are here to stay."
