Justin Bieber takes epic hit during NHL All-Star Celebrity Shootout

By Sarah Walker

Justin Bieber knows how to take a hit as much as he knows how to make one.

Over the weekend, the pop star took part in the NHL All-Star Celebrity Shootout and put his hockey skills on full display.

He was chosen to be part of Team Gretzky (and even got to pose with The Great One) and scored several goals.

The GRAMMY winner and proud Canadian called his appearance during the All Star weekend in Los Angeles "one of the highlights" of his life.

And while the singer is used to making headlines for his chart-topping hits, it was another hit that had Justin trending on social media.

One of the most viewed images from the event is a shot of him rushing for the puck against NHL legend Chris Pronger.

As the duo duked it out for the rights to the sphere, the former Philadelphia Flyers star body-checked the 22-year-old into the boards.

The way the "Sorry" singer took the hit generated a ton of praise on social media.

It even came up during Coach's Corner featuring Don Cherry and Ron MacLean.

“There he his, great haircut; Canadian boy from Stratford,” said Don of the pop sensation. “He’s back-checking. Way to go, Justin-boy! Pretty good singer, I guess, too."

When speaking to the hit, specifically, he added, "At least he tried!"

Even the head of the NHL's Player Safety Department was impressed.

He took to Twitter and jokingly said, "The Department of Player Safety will have a hearing tomorrow morning with Chris Pronger for his Check from Behind on @justinbieber." He later noted, "I hope everyone understood that this was just a joke. A little fun on All Star weekend."

The whole thing is all the more impressive when you compare the stature of the two; while Justin is about 5'7", Chris is nearly 6'6"

The event honoured late-Canadian actor Alan Thicke, and Team Gretzky beat Team Lemieux (as in Mario) 5-3.
