Jamie Lynn Spears has opened up about her daughter’s life-threatening accident, describing it as any parent's "worst nightmare". Sharing a sweet Instagram picture of eight-year-old Maddie holding her friend's baby daughter this week, the 25-year-old singer reflected on the past few weeks. "A month ago, at this time, I was living a mothers/anyone's worst nightmare happening right in front of my eyes, helplessly."

She added: "Fast-forward - today, we were able to celebrate the baptism of our sweet Kylie Blair. I'm not one to preach, but we were shown God's grace, and we still feel undeserving of His mercy. I'll never stop thanking each of you for your prayers, because we recognize the miracle it created. We are beyond blessed, and we will NEVER forget y'all, and God's unbelievable mercy." [sic]

Early last month, Maddie - the niece of Britney Spears - was airlifted to hospital after an all-terrain vehicle she was in flipped over into the family's pond, leaving her trapped underwater for two minutes. A police report stated: "The ATV and child were instantly submerged in the water right before their eyes. Within seconds, the child's mother, stepfather and other family members reached the pond, dove in and attempted to rescue the child to no avail. The child was trapped and secured by the seatbelt and the ATV's safety netting. Within two minutes Acadian Ambulance Service arrived and assisted in freeing the child from the cold waters."

According to People, Maddie was taken to a New Orleans hospital where she "remained unconscious for two days." She was eventually released from hospital and has since had a full recovery. "When she woke up, they said that it was obvious that she recognized them all," a friend told the site. "Everybody was crying because it was such a miracle." Maddie was born when Jamie Lynn was 17-years-old. Her father is Jamie Lynn's ex-boyfriend Casey Aldridge. After welcoming Maddie in June 2008, Jamie Lynn left Hollywood to raise her daughter in her native Louisiana.
