Charlize Theron gets candid about dating and raising two kids on her own

Charlize Theron, 41, has revealed it’s not always easy to find love or raise two children as single parent – even when you’re a Hollywood superstar!

The Oscar-winning actress, who has a five-year-old son, Jackson, and one-year-old daughter, August, opened up about her home life on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

“I have an incredible village that helps me raise these two beautiful kids,” says Charlize, currently starring in The Fate of the Furious. Still, she admits being a mom can be overwhelming at times.

“In the mornings I have them alone and they kind of work against each other sometimes. It's like one decides to freak out and then both decide to freak out. I don’t know why they’d do that!” she told Ellen.“You'd think they'd stand there and be considerate and go, ‘That one’s freaking out right now; I'm not going to freak out. I’m going to be nice. I'm just going to chill out and have my mom deal with that.’ But they don't.”

The mother of two jokingly added that her house is messy and filled with glitter. “There is way too much of it in the house … I’m like, ‘Where is this glitter coming from?!’ And it’s those princess dresses!”

With all her responsibilities on set and at home, the Mad Max: Fury Road star revealed she doesn’t have much time for dating, which is why her friend Chelsea Handler advised her to start using a celebrity dating app.

Charlize admits being a mom can be at times overwhelming.

Charlize, who has been engaged twice – most recently to fellow Oscar winner Sean Penn – admitted she finds searching for love online “kind of awkward because you don't know the person, and they're trying to be cute and they say weird things.”

She said she prefers a more traditional romantic route. “I just like a good old friend hooking up you or introducing you. I'm so old school!” She and Sean had known each other for years before they began dating. The couple called it quits in 2015 after 18 months together.

As an only child from South Africa, Charlize is loving the dynamic of raising Jackson, whom she adopted in March 2012, and August, who joined the family in July 2015, as siblings.“It really is one of the most incredible things I've ever witnessed, to see how much they love each other and how much they're excited to see each other,” she explained, adding, “They're just so in love with each other. It's really beautiful.”
