David Beckham spent some time bonding with his best friend Dave Gardner's son Sailor at the weekend. The former England footballer, who has been named godfather of the seven-month-old, appeared thrilled to meet the baby boy in sweet photos shared by proud mum Liv Tyler.

One close up snap showed David holding hands with Sailor, with his distinctive tattoos clearly on display.

"Sailor Gene holding hands with his God father @davidbeckham @davidgardner," Liv captioned the image.

The 38-year-old then shared a photo of the footballer and her fiancé Dave sat next to Sailor, who was strapped into his pushchair between them. "Sweet boys!!! Sailor having lunch with his daddy @davidgardner and his God daddy @davidbeckham," Liv wrote.

The meet-up happened while David was in New York to address the United Nations. The father-of-four unveiled a unique digital installation, created for Unicef by Google, in a bid to bring the voices of children and young people to the heart of the UN General Assembly.

Following his important address, David took the chance to unwind by enjoying a "pizza party" in Brooklyn with Liv, Dave and other friends including Noel Gallagher and his wife Sara MacDonald – also shared by Liv with her fans on Instagram.

The Leftovers actress is an active user of the social networking site and appeared to confirm rumours that she and Dave are engaged by sharing a close up photo of her engagement ring at the weekend. While Liv made no reference to her engagement in the caption, she happily posed with her left hand on display as she gazed out of a window at New York City.

Liv and Dave began dating last summer and in September 2014, Liv confirmed she was pregnant with her and Dave's baby. Little Sailor was born in February, six weeks early, with the doting parents saying they were "so in love" with their new arrival.
