Victoria's pride as David Beckham announces his return to the football pitch

David Beckham is returning to his roots. Three years after announcing his retirement from football, the 40-year-old has confirmed he will be lacing up his boots once again on 14 November, to take part in a very special charity match to help raise money for the children's charity UNICEF.David – a UNICEF ambassador – is captaining a Great Britain and Ireland XI team, managed by his former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson. They will take on a World XI side captained by French star Zinedine Zidane. All the money raised from ticket sales will be donated to UNICEF – and no-one is prouder of David for his participation than his wife Victoria Beckham.

On Friday, she posted an Instagram photo of David and Zinedine on the pitch together, taken when they were team-mates at Real Madrid. "Proud of @davidbeckham putting his boots back on again at Old Trafford for the fantastic work of UNICEF," she wrote alongside. "Captaining the Great British team, managed by Sir Alex Ferguson against a Rest of the World side captained by @Zidane and managed by @mrancelotti on November 14th. Tickets on sale from today at www.manutd.com/tickets #MatchForChildren.”David revealed the news of the footballing fundraiser during an appearance on Nick Grimshaw's BBC Radio 1 breakfast show on Friday morning. "Everyone knows that I retired three years ago and I never thought I'd be getting my boots out again and playing," David admitted. "Football is such a powerful took and to have Zidane on the field, Sir Alex Ferguson and (Italian football manager) Carlo Ancelotti in the stands, I think people are going to love it. "This match gives me the perfect opportunity to raise awareness and vital funds to help reach the children who need it most."
