Justin Theroux gave fans an early Christmas present when he signed up to Instagram on Wednesday. The Leftovers star instantly proved popular on the social networking site and clocked up over 20,000 followers within hours of signing up.

The actor is currently only following 34 people including his co-star Liv Tyler, fellow actors Robert Downey Jr. and Will Arnett, along with model Cara Delevingne.

As for his first post? The 44-year-old shared a brooding black-and-white selfie which showed him wearing a black leather jacket with a dramatic mountain backdrop behind him.

Justin Theroux joined Instagram on Wednesday

Simply captioned "#on", the image attracted hundreds of comments from fans, many of whom hoped Justin would begin sharing photos with his wife Jennifer Aniston.

However while Justin has finally signed up to the site, don't expect Jennifer to follow suit anytime soon. The former Friends star has been open about not wanting to join social media, and said her takeover of the Living Proof beauty Instagram account in the summer left her feeling stressed.

"I was so stressed out, sweating bullets," she told People. "It was too much pressure. For the Kardashians, it's a career."

It is unlikely Jennifer Aniston will join her husband on the social networking site

She continued: "Kids aren't speaking to each other anymore. I was with friends of ours from Vermont and their two kids don't have an iPhone or iPad. They were nine and 12 and were the most interesting young adults. Seeing other kids on their [phones] all the time, it makes me sad."

Although Justin has signed up to Instagram, it is unlikely the actor will share private photos including snaps from his and Jennifer's wedding. The couple, who tied the knot at their Bel-Air home in August, have been vocal about their desire to keep their big day private – with Jennifer recently revealing that they haven't even seen their wedding photos yet.

"It was amazing. We were determined to keep it just private and to ourselves. And the thing is, we haven't even seen pictures," Jennifer told make-up artist Bobbi Brown forYahoo! Style.

"But, you know, it was just everything we wanted it to be, and [we are] very happy that we didn't have to see our faces on the cover of a magazine."
