Alexander Wang announces his H&M collaboration with a sporty Instagram video

Talk about an exciting first Instagram post!

New York-based designer Alexander Wang, 30, announced on Saturday night (Apr. 12) that he’ll be the latest designer to partner with H&M, succeeding previous collaborators like Isabel Marant, Martin Margiela and Viktor & Rolf.

The high-end sportswear savant kicked off his Instagram account (which has amassed 150,000 followers) with a video about the partnership, in which stadium lights flash on in sequence before revealing a scoreboard with the collection’s release date.

The Balenciaga head honcho timed the video’s release to coincide with the Coachella party he hosted with the Scandinavian fast-fashion brand in Indio, California that same night.

The annual H&M party boasted performances by Major Lazer, Diplo, Iggy Azalea and Jesse Marco, and the star-studded guest list included the likes of Kate Bosworth, Lorde, Katy Perry, Fergie, Florence Welch, Kesha and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

WWD asked Alexander, whose designs are coveted by "it girls" worldwide, to tease out some of his plans for the upcoming collection, but he coyly remarked, “It’s too early to say. There will be a new element of lifestyle offering that’s a completely new way of approaching the collaboration.”

And while he might be tight-lipped about his vision for the cheap and cheerful designer collection, Alex has nothing but positive things to say about the state of fast fashion. “It’s a different era and a different world today and I think everything is changing – the whole system of fashion and design [is changing] and I think there’s an opportunity for everyone to create and do something that is different and individual," he said. "For the tenth anniversary we wanted to approach this in our individual way. Time will tell how it unfolds.”

The ‘Wang Gang’ is about to get even bigger, adding to its current roster of devout fan girls – think: Lindsay Lohan, Kim Kardashian, Lea Michele, Kristen Cavallari, Megan Fox, Dakota Fanning, Elizabeth Olsen, Shakira and Emma Stone, to name a few.
