There’s always a story behind Katie Boland’s outfits. The star of Reign (M3) loves to dig up an ideal look for every occasion, which is why Hello! Canada asked her to share some of her best sartorial tips. Here, the stylish starlet lists her go-to places to shop in her hometown of Toronto.
As soon as I walked into this store I knew I’d found a fashion home. The owner, Tao, and the gals who work there are truly some of the kindest people I know. Cabaret Vintage always has stunning dresses for the red carpet. So far, they’ve dressed me for the Venice Film Festival, the Canadian Screen Awards and every TIFF premiere I’ve had. Also, the store has a beautiful line of wedding dresses, which I hope to wear one day. Cabaret truly has something for everyone.
DOLL FACTORY BY DAMZELS
I love this store filled with quirky and vintage-inspired dresses located in the heart of Leslieville. The girls who work there look like ‘50s rockabilly stars. I always find something perfect for a date night or a day of press here. It’s the ideal place to find a fun party dress that makes you feel like the best version of yourself.
M for MENDOCINO
This store is in the Beaches, the neighbourhood in Toronto where I grew up. I walk by it all the time, and with reasonable prices like theirs it’s hard not to find something great. The girls who work there are not only fashion mavens but my friends. M for Mendocino has turned many bad days around. I always leave with that perfect something for a night out, and a smile on my face.
On top of their great Toronto location, Bicyclette’s online store is to die for. They are a clothing boutique and lifestyle brand that merges downtown looks with a whimsical twist – street style meets fairy tale. Visiting this store feels like an escape. The staff is made up of creative ladies - actresses, models and artists in their own right. I’m inspired by the way they blend fantasy with fashion.
CHAMPAGNE & CUPCAKES
This store offers affordable luxury. Champagne & Cupcakes offers a unique selection of dresses. Ranging from cocktail attire to gowns, the dresses are 100% locally made on site. They even have a “white label,” which allows shoppers to modify, or specially-tailor existing styles. I wore one of their dresses to the Calgary Film Festival and another to a good friend’s wedding. No matter what kind of woman you are -- girly or edgy -- there is definitely something at Champagne & Cupcakes for you.
