Joseph Mimran is stepping down from Joe Fresh

By Sarah Kelsey

Joe Mimran, the visionary (and name!) behind one of Canada's most recognizable fast-fashion labels, is stepping down from his post at the ever-expanding Joe Fresh. In an interview with The Toronto Star, Joe said he decided to leave his post at the helm of the company to focus on family.

“I’ve been doing it for 10 years, and I’ve been looking to relax a little bit and enjoy my home in Palm Beach, my wife and kids” - his wife being Pink Tartan designer Kimberley Newport-Mimran.

In a statement he went on to say, "It's been a remarkable journey since we launched Joe Fresh in 2006 and I'm proud of what we have accomplished in these years.

Though the move is effective immediately, Loblaw spokesman Kevin Groh confirmed that the 62-year-old designer will stay on as a brand ambassador. Current Joe Fresh president Mario Grauso will take over the label.

Since launching a decade ago, Joe Fresh's preppy and brightly hued designs have revolutionized the Canadian fashion landscape. There are now hundreds of retail locations selling its affordable yet stylish wares, including outposts in the U.S. and in Seoul, South Korea.

Before the last Joe Fresh runway show at World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto last year, theirs was the hottest ticket of the week, bringing in famous Canadian models like Alanna Zimmer, Heather Marks and Liisa Winkler. Joe also famously brought Solange Knowles in to DJ a party during the Spring/Summer 2014 collections.

While this news is sad, it's clear this won't be the last we see or hear of Mr. Mimran.

"I’ll do a little bit of relaxing for the next while and then see what I want to dig into," he told The Star. "Maybe I’ll pursue something in the art world, I’ll help Kim with Pink Tartan a little bit -- lots of things interest me."
