Your A to Z guide to spring trends

By: Sarah Kelsey

If you took note of the Spring/Summer collections on runways last fall, you were sure to notice a number of standout trends: denim, fringe, gingham, culottes. And we've already seen quite a few of our favourite style stars rocking these soon-to-be staples, from Eva Mendes's retro gingham dress (part of her collection with New York And Company) to the denim-on-denim look Karlie Kloss wears in one of her Joe Fresh ads.

As you start to pack up your chunky knits, heavy scarves and wool coats, let your mind wander to the lush, breezy season that's a favourite for so many Canadians - with even more to love this year!

In terms of hot hues, expect to see lots of beige, white, lavender and yellow lining store shelves. You can also trade your skinny jeans for flares and bell bottoms, as clothes of every kind – shirts, jackets and pants – will become roomier. Vintage fabrics are set to make a comeback, and items from the '70s and '90s will be on everyone’s “it” lists.

Some style stars who inspired our sartorial dreams for the season include Marion Cotillard, who does wonders with a crop top; Jessica Alba for keeping her denim forever new and exciting; Zoe Saldana's bold use of eyeliner; and Diane Kruger's preppy jailhouse stripes. Of course, we also kept a close eye on the Duchess of Cambridge, née Kate Middleton, and Béyonce.
