The week's best celebrity style: Rose Byrne, Carey Mulligan, Elizabeth Olsen and more

By Nicole Carrington

As temps continue to rise, leave it to Hollywood’s finest to teach us how to strategically flaunt our best assets – namely in the form of next-level cutouts.

Kate Mara’s two-piece Cushnie et Ochs look at the MTV Video Awards featured a metallic crop top with a Peter-Pan collar and cape overlay – along with a flared mini skirt paired with coordinating silver sandals – while actress Holland Roden rocked a psychedelic '70s vibe in a graphic keyhole dress by Caterina Gatta and sky-blue pumps.

And the old-school trend just kept on rolling. Harley Viera Newton deserved a round of applause at the launch party for Lilly Pulitzer’s Target collaboration, which she attended in an A-line denim mini skirt with contrast stitching and exposed buttons, suede pumps and a dynamite-printed pastel scarf. Model Constance Jablonski’s mile-long stems stole the show at the Tribeca Film Fest, where she wowed in a vintage look by Valentino paired with patent leather slingback platforms. Irina Shayk was also in attendance, turning heads all night long with her effortless smile and fringed Misha Nonoo frock.

Proving black and blue make excellent partners in crime, Rose Byrne stepped out at the Barney’s New York soirée in celebration of Victoria Beckham in a head-to-toe look from the designer, including silk joggers and a black tuxedo jacket. Navy was also the colour of choice for Elizabeth Olsen, who paired her floor-length Galven skirt with one of the fashion house’s silk t-shirts at the red-carpet premiere of her new film, Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Model Lily Aldridge also topped this week’s best dressed in a creamy, all-white look that radiated spring, as did Carey Mulligan and Ashley Madekwe in Dior – Carey in a gleaming, fully embellished gown and Ashley in a demure, pastel cross-over dress.
