Reese Witherspoon launches Draper James fashion and lifestyle brand

Reese Witherspoon has a new baby, but it’s not her fourth child – it’s a newly launched “Southern style” lifestyle and retail brand called Draper James. The online hub blends fashion, home decor and accessories.

Writing in her editorial letter, the Hollywood actress revealed that she named the brand after her grandparents Dorothea Draper and William James Witherspoon, who taught her everything about “gracious Southern living”.

“My grandmother Dorothea only drove white Cadillacs – always while wearing proper driving gloves,” wrote Reese. "She didn’t have a lot of dresses, but she had an incredible sense of style and knew how to make the most of any outfit by wearing the perfect accessories.”

The Sweet Home Alabama star went on to describe how her grandma was the typical, wonderful Southern hostess, who always welcomed guests into her house and cooked too much food.

Her grandfather, likewise, “could charm anyone” and taught Reese that "good manners and great style go hand in hand”.

The blonde stunner, 39, will use her website to offer a range of products to shoppers, from stationery to blankets to dresses and bracelets. They will all encompass the Southern style – which means a lot of colour and prints and well-matched outfits.

As for her own style, Reese described it as “pretty eclectic”. The New Orleans-born star, who has three children, wrote that she usually wears jeans, a plaid shirt and short cowboy boots when she’s “running around chasing the kids”, but she’ll dress up for meetings and a night out.

“I love clothes with colour and happy prints because you only get one life, so you might as well make it pretty!” she wrote.

Her business isn’t just a portal for “pretty, stylish” goods, however. Draper James also aims to promote the talents of Southern people, and every month will introduce readers and shoppers to local artists, writers, musicians, storeowners and chefs.
