Meghan Markle on her biggest splurge and must-have fall pieces

By Ally Dean

When she’s not starring in the hit legal drama Suits, Meghan Markle spends her days experimenting in the kitchen (a lobster reuben and Thai curry are two of her signature dishes), travelling the globe and editing her lifestyle website, The Tig. Here, the 34-year-old actress and newly appointed Reitmans celebrity Brand Ambassador tells Hello! her style secrets and reveals what’s on her shopping wish-list.

Meghan Markle stars in the hit legal drama Suits.

How would you characterize your personal style?
I gravitate towards a neutral palette and really timeless pieces, but I like to try to mix in something trend-centric. For fall, jeans and a white blouse is pretty much my uniform. But I’ll pair that with a leather jacket or a poncho and a pair of high heels to give it a little something extra.

Has your role as Rachel Zane on Suits influenced your personal style?
It definitely helped my style evolve and become more polished. I really appreciate the value of tailoring, the quality and craftsmanship of designers’ pieces. I mean, you can’t help but fall in love with a Tom Ford pencil skirt.

Hello! was on set for Meghan's Reitmans shoot.

But the jewellery you wear on the show is your own.
Yes! We wanted Rachel’s jewellery to feel personal, like family heirlooms. I’ve actually worn my grandmother’s charm bracelet and pearls from my mom on the show. Its funny, because my first name is actually Rachel, so even my signet ring actually has the initial R.

Have you added anything to your jewellery collection that has a special meaning to you?
I’ve always coveted the Cartier French Tank watch. When I found out Suits had been picked up for our third season – which, at the time, felt like such a milestone – I totally splurged and bought the two-tone version. I had it engraved on the back, “To M.M. From M.M.” and I plan to give it to my daughter one day. That’s what makes pieces special, the connection you have to them.
