The Week’s Best Celebrity Style: Cara Delevingne, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Emily Blunt and more

By Ava Baccari

There’s no more perfect time of year to rock those plush brocades and metallic sequins on the red carpet than right before the holidays. Swish fabrics, glittering details and sleek suit dressing stole the show as celebrities like Carey Mulligan, Lupita Nyong'o and Emily Blunt stepped out in their best silver and gold iterations. With all that sparkle, this week was definitely a stylish feast for the eyes.

Cara Delevingne led the fashion pack in a look by American label For Love and Lemons, a classic LBD amped up with gold detailing. The Suicide Squad star, 23, wore the flattering frock for the Project-0 Wave Makers Marine Conservation Concert in her native London.

Also catching eyes in London town was Carey Mulligan, who looked ever so radiant (and appropriately festive!) in a vivid Dolce & Gabbana number featuring laser-cut, metallic leather appliqués. The 30-year-old Suffragette star donned the luxe pattern, a floral vine motif to represent a family tree, to The War Child Winter Wassail event.

British newcomer Gugu Mbatha-Raw, 32, sparkled on the red carpet at the New York premiere of her latest film, Concussion, in which she stars opposite Will Smith. The former TV actress dazzled below the belt in a feminine Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini dress that features a gilded brocade skirt. Also opting to keep the glitz down below, actress Emily Blunt was a show-stopper in a white Lela Rose shirt dress embellished with coy metallic detailing below the knee. Emily anchored her look with Sophia Webster heels at MoMA Film's The Contenders's screening of Sicario.

Of course, menswear looks were just as sleek because, well, 'tis the season for elegance. Kate Hudson opted for a sharp and beautifully cut black Elie Saab jumpsuit with a matching coat over top for the New York premiere of The Hateful Eight. And suavely suited co-stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy were a picture-perfect pair in navy suits and similarly groomed facial hair at the Los Angeles premiere of The Revenant.

Elsewhere more stars of Tinseltown shone brightly this week, with Lupita Nyong'o in couture Alexandre Vaultier and Christina Hendricks in brocade Amelia Toro. Take your cues for glitzy festive and New Year's Eve dressing from here.
