Celebs kicked off 2016 with a bright approach to their winter fashion – and what better way to start fresh than with delicate floral appliqués and gorgeously in-bloom prints? And the parade of winter floral prints that we saw on top A-list style makers this week is the perfect and subtle lead-up to the glamorous evening wear we’ll be seeing more of as we officially head into red carpet season.
This year’s stylish onscreen breakouts, including Irish actress Saoirse Ronan and Swedish beauty Alicia Vikander, led the freshly bloomed trend. The Danish Girl star and Golden Globe best actress nominee Alicia arrived at the W Magazine Golden Globes party awash in painterly florals planted across her strapless Marc Jacobs Resort 2016 gown.
Brooklyn star Saoirse, also a contender for the best actress top spot (and pegged as an Oscar favourite!), shimmered in a jacquard Burberry 2016 dress with a floral motif and complementary orange-and-black Christian Louboutin heels. She rocked this colourful ensemble at a party hosted by Burberry in honour of the John Crowley-directed film, held at the label's Beverly Hills flagship store.
The 2016 Palm Springs Film Festival, which has been touted as an early predictor of Oscar favourites, saw A-lister Cate Blanchett rocking the red carpet in a stylish yet pared down ensemble that gave us the slightest hint as to what the Carol star might wear to Sunday night's Golden Globes ceremony. For the glamorous California-set film festival, Cate chose a powder-blue silk Marc Jacobs Spring 2016 column dress with gold floral embroidery, which she wore when claiming her Desert Palm Achievement Award. Also at the festival, The Danish Girl's Amber Heard graced the red carpet in a black lace Dolce & Gabbana fishtail gown.
The rest of the week saw stars like Sandra Bullock shine in a poppy red lace Monique Lhuillier at the People's Choice Awards and British model Suki Waterhouse channeling Old Hollywood glamour in a slip-cut lace gold Brock Collection spring number. Also keeping it fresh and pretty were Emily Blunt in Elie Saab and Lily James in Alexander McQueen. Going by how these stylish stars ushered in 2016, we can already tell it's going to be a bright year ahead!
