Gina Rodriguez gifts fan with Golden Globes dress for prom

Gina Rodriguez has made a fan's dream come true. The award-winning star played fairy godmother to 17-year-old Jessica Casanova by gifting her with the perfect outfit to wear to prom, and it's a very special dress indeed!

The Jane the Virgin star happily handed over the black Badgley Mischka gown she wore to the 2015 Golden Globes, the very dress she wore when she took home her first acting award for Best Actress in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy. The eye-catching number features a flattering sweetheart neckline and a sequin train.

What makes the generous exchange even more interesting is that it played out online.

On Jan. 28, Jessica tweeted Gina (@HereIsGina) saying she'd love to wear the Zac Posen gown that the 31-year-old wore to the 2016 Golden Globes to her high school dance.

Much to the teen's surprise, the 31-year-old responded, explaining that because the Zac Posen gown was on loan the TV star could instead offer the prior year's Badgley Mischka creation.

The rest of the conversation played out like this.

Another one of Rodriguez's fans chimed into the conversation, saying the actress should start a sharing circle for her wardrobe: "You're so stellar for this! can we start a 'Sisterhood of the Travelling Gina Golden Globes Dress?'" The sweet actress responded in a positive way.

While surprising, it's not the first time the star has done something sweet for her fans and her community. Gina is actively involved with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and national bullying campaigns in the U.S. She is also vocal about empowering women.

"Beauty comes from within … I've met some of the most beautiful people, and sadly their heart is just not smiling, and that destroys it all. And then other people that aesthetically aren't considered as beautiful are the most gorgeous people I've ever seen in my life," she told The Huffington Post.
