Is Kate bringing back the hairnet trend?

The Duchess of Cambridge, née Kate Middleton, has set her fair share of fashion and beauty trends, but we could never have guessed the next hair craze her fans would be coveting. Prince William's wife seems to have revived the hairnet trend, having been spotted with her husband and Prince Harry at the Somme Centenary commemorations in France last week wearing the hair accessory.

Looking demure in an $1,427 Missoni coat, black dress and a pillbox hat, Kate chose to sweep her glossy brunette hair into an elegant chignon, using a hairnet to keep her locks in place. Eagle-eyed fans quickly took note of the subtle hairpiece which matched her natural hair colour almost to perfection.

The Duchess has no doubt sparked a revival of the trend, with the 'Kate Effect' already taking hold, as fans have quickly begun trying out the look for themselves. It comes as no surprise: the 'Kate Effect' often sees her ensembles and accessories selling out minutes after being identified.

It could be that Prince George and Princess Charlotte's mother was inspired by the autumn/winter 2016 catwalk shows, which saw veils and hairnets making a rare appearance. Models in the Gucci show were spotted with fascinators and headpieces that held their hair together with net detailing, while other designers such as Isabel Marant opted for full on veils.

A few weeks later, the Duchess once again gave fans summer hair inspiration when she showed off her beauty credentials at the opening of Hampton Court's Magic Garden, twisting the front two sections of her hair and pinning them back for a twist on the classic half updo.
