The week's best celebrity style: Diane Kruger, Emma Roberts, Kelly Rowland and more

Basic black is so last season – this week, style-savvy celebs like Diane Kruger, Emma Roberts and Kelly Rowland were throwing shade in the most creative ways on red carpets. Enlisting details like sexy slits, sheer panels, lace and caped accents, these all-black ensembles give the moody hue a brand new spin.

While promoting her latest film, The Infiltrator, Diane Kruger has been on a stylish parade that's had us glued to Twitter for her latest looks. The onyx Michelle Mason dress she donned for the film's after-party in New York, a sultry asymmetrical silk number featuring polka-dot sheer panels, was anything but basic. If only we could infiltrate her closet...

Also on the promotional trail, Emma Roberts popped by Late Night with Seth Meyers in a fun and flirty Wai Ming dress that was equal parts cute, comfortable and chic. The A-line cut and thigh-grazing length may have been on the simple side, but a sheer panel with ruffling and a bandeau across the décolletage kept all eyes on the Nerve star, who anchored the look with patent Saint Laurent pumps.

Kelly Rowland rolled into the VH1 Hip Hop Honours: All Hail The Queens in a mesh LBD that gave us all the fashion feels. The woven fabric on the Elie Youssef Couture creation was expertly used in varying weights to show off all her best assets, while the short length was well-balanced by a high neckline and partially covered sleeves.

Also on the onyx trail this week were Gina Rodriguez and Lindsey Vonn at the ESPYs, who stole the show in heavily slit Safiyaa and caped Michael Costello respectively; Melissa McCarthy promoting Ghostbusters in a bell-sleeved lace top with a figure-hugging black skirt; Winona Ryder calling her Beetlejuice character to mind in a goth-inspired ensemble and Chanel Iman rocking the eyelet summer dress at the Revolve Summer Party. Dark as night, these looks were still a ray of sunshine!
