Chokers have definitely made a fashion comeback. From bejewelled baubles to simple black strings, "It" girls like Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner have found a way to wear the necklace for any occasion.

And while the trend is having a moment in 2016, it's long been a staple for royals around the world. The most famous royal choker fan was Princess Diana, who became synonymous with the style of jewelry, and other European trendsetters quickly followed suit.

Queen Mary purchased the necklace and it has since been handed down through generations of royal women. It features four strands of pearls with 20 diamond-encrusted vertical bars segmented throughout.
