Week's Best Celebrity Style: Marion Cotillard, Karlie Kloss, Hailee Steinfeld and more

By Ava Baccari

It's easy to see why turtlenecks are a style go-to this time of year being that they're a classically chic yet cozy fall statement. So it comes as no surprise that the look would spill over onto the red carpet, albeit with a refined twist. Enter the mock neck. A cross between a turtleneck and crew neck, this simple, elegant ‘90s trend was revived in colourful and couture iterations on everyone from Marion Cotillard to Karlie Kloss. Consider this the new versatile wardrobe staple of the season.

Marion slipped into a sleeveless, navy Dior gown that perfectly cascaded over her growing baby bump. The high neckline complemented the loose, glossy waves that hit just below her shoulders.

Karlie Kloss went for a ruched take on this silhouette with a long-sleeved white Prabal Gurung number that featured a floral-painted print along the thigh-high slit (it’s the Angelina effect!). The modest neckline here was the right balance to a daring, low-cut back.

Hailee Steinfeld also embraced the look with a Ralph & Russo hand-painted silk organza gown. The dusty rose floral embroidery down the back and cut-out detail – and yes, a thigh-high slit – once again made for a sexy take on this buttoned-up look.

Other stylish stars rocking the mock neck this week were Martha Hunt (in two-toned Tome), Katherine Waterston (in Ulyana Sergeenko Couture), Charlotte Ronson (in Valentino) and Karolina Kurkova (in a shiny BCBGMAXAZRIA number). Hailey Baldwin’s tangerine and turquoise fringed Baja East dress was proof that turtlenecks can be sexy. Tell your friends.
