Will Ferrell hosts curling event in Winnipeg as Ron Burgundy

Will Ferrell delighted fans in Winnipeg over the weekend when he co-hosted one of the biggest events in Canadian curling as anchorman Ron Burgundy.

“I’m really enjoying Winnipeg, the Paris of Canada, as it’s known,” he said in a media scrum at the Roar of the Rings curling trials on Sunday.

The actor took to the ice to throw a rock of his own before changing into a kilt to join in on the running commentary with TSN curling broadcaster Vic Rauter – though the fictional news anchor seemed to know next to nothing about the sport.

Nonetheless, Mr. Burgundy was enthusiastic, insisting that “curling is the future.” When asked what he could bring to the game of curling, Ron said "dignity and class."

The Roar of the Rings determines which team will represent Canada at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games, with the finals taking place Dec. 7 and 8. Will Ferrell’s appearance brought impressive numbers to the event, as nearly 11,000 fans attended in the hopes of getting a glimpse of the anchorman.

The actor, 46, has been making several hilarious appearances as the 1970s news anchor to promote his new movie , Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, which is slated for release this month before Christmas.
