'Watch the Notebook and weep:’ Eva Mendes reveals tongue-in-cheek Valentine’s Day plans following split from Ryan Gosling

Eva Mendes made light of her recent split from Canadian actor Ryan Gosling during at appearance on the Ellen Degeneres Show this week.

When asked about her plans for February's amorous holiday, the 39-year-old actress admitted she had no grand plans, while making a joke at the expense of her Hollywood ex.

“I'm not a big Valentine's Day person,” she said. “I’ll probably just order a deep dish and watch The Notebook or something.”

“Just cry, weep,” she added.

Ryan, 33, was catapulted to fame after starring in the 2005 romance, The Notebook, alongside his longtime love, Rachel McAdams. The Canadian power couple (both hail from London, Ontario) dated for several years before calling it quits in 2009, much to the disappointment of fans.

In 2011, Ryan and Eva began dating after meeting on the set of The Place Beyond The Pines. They reportedly broke up over Christmas, but details of their split only emerged this month (Eva coyly avoided addressing the rumours during her Ellen appearance).

Reasons for their split also vary. The couple reportedly felt that they were rushing towards marriage too quickly, but also led very different lifestyles; Ryan is a homebody and Eva loves going out to glamorous Hollywood parties.

Meanwhile, the handsome actor has reportedly returned to Canada to take "time out of the limelight to refocus."
