​‘Pretty Woman’ is coming to Broadway

Nearly 25 years after Pretty Woman made Julia Roberts’ a household name, the 1990s classic romantic comedy is coming to Broadway.

Producer Gary Marshall is reportedly working to bring the rom-com to the stage, having met with lyricists, producers and composers this week to discuss a possible adaptation.

The hunt is on to find the right actors – with the right chemistry – to play loveable prostitute Vivian and ruthless lawyer Edward (originally played by Richard Gere).

In the film, Edward hires Vivian to escort him to business events, after which a modern-day Cinderella story unfolds and the unlikely pair fall in love.

Though the musical is still in its planning stages, hopes for a smash hit are already high; the film version earned $500 million at the box office and is considered to be one of the most successful romantic comedies of all time. However, it will likely take several years of development before Pretty Woman the musical is ready to hit Broadway theatres.
