Oscars host and daytime talk show favourite Ellen Degeneres is joining forces with HGTV on Ellen’s Design Challenge – a six-episode reality series that pits six design hopefuls compete to sketch and build furniture over 24–hour periods.
The idea came about when Ellen sat down with HGTV and DIY president Kathleen Finch, who later described the Ellen host’s love of flipping homes as the inspiration for “her passion for the creative process of furniture design.”
The show is scheduled as part of the popular network's 2015 lineup, and will be produced by the comedian’s production company – A Very Good Production – in collaboration with A. Smith & Co. and Telepictures.
The call for the retweet-record holder isn’t out of left field, as HGTV has beefed up its celebrity-hosted content in recent years, airing shows hosted by rapper Vanilla Ice, Hall and Oates’ Daryl Hall and 90210’s Jennie Garth.
"I'm so excited about this show because I love finding really special pieces of furniture," Ellen said. "One time I found a beautiful one-of-a-kind armoire that spoke to me in a way I'Dnever experienced. It turned out there was a drifter living inside of it, but that's a story for another time."
Apart from home renovations, Ellen has been politically active of late, recently issuing a boycott of The Beverly Hills Hotel and Hotel Bel-Air.
