In the year since she went public with news of her life-saving surgery, Angelina Jolie has been focusing on life behind the scenes – her second directorial feature, Unbroken, her humanitarian work, and, above all, her family life with fiancé Brad Pitt and their six children.
And even now that she’s back in the spotlight with a new hit movie, Maleficent – a reimagining of the children’s fairytale Sleeping Beauty co-starring Elle Fanning – it was with her nearest and dearest in mind.
“I think about [my kids] and I want to make them laugh. I want to make them happy,” she tells HELLO! Canada about her new role. “They have [seen the film] and they love it…Hopefully, it taught them that people can go to this dark place, but what is beautiful is that you can grow beyond it and find love and happiness.”
They can also learn that lesson right at home. Angelina, 38, and Brad, 50, who got engaged in 2012, are a perfect team – especially when it comes to parenting.
“The way we treat each other in front of our children teaches them so much. The way Brad treats me, the way he takes care of me; he made something special on Mother’s Day with all the kids. He is teaching them to respect women, and the girls are being shown an example of how they expect to be treated. I hope to do the same for the boys,” says Angelina.
