Katie Holmes to make her directorial debut in ‘All We Had’

For her newest film project, Katie Holmes is stepping behind the camera for the first time.

Following in the footsteps of Ben Affleck (Argo) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Don Jon), the actress is set to both star in and direct an adaptation of the novel All We Had.

In the film, the 35-year-old star plays the poverty-stricken mother of a teenage girl as they struggle to survive in small-town America.

It was originally assumed that Katie — who has a daughter of her own, eight-year-old Suri Cruise — would only star in the flick. Instead, the brunette beauty has decided to have a seat in the director's chair, too.

The star of The Giver will also have plenty of support as she steps into her new role. Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone will pen the adaptation of the recently published novel (Aug. 5 marked its release), while Jane Rosenthal (About a Boy, Rent) has signed on to produce.
