BJ Novak’s children’s book has no pictures, but produces lots of laughs

We knew that actor and writer BJ Novak is savvy with words, but we didn't know he was this good!

The actor (Inglorious Basterds, The Office) and writer (The New Yorker, The Mindy Project) has added children’s book author to his résumé - and his The Book With No Pictures has managed to become a smash hit with an image-obsessed generation of tykes and not a single picture.

The book is exactly what it says it is, using a variety of typography to deliver a humourous message to children with words in lieu of illustrations.

BJ explained to Vanity Fair why he chose the unconventional format for his younger audience, noting that he wanted to show kids how words can help them.

“The idealistic answer, and it’s true, is that I thought, there’s a really exciting way to show kids that the written words can be their ally and it’s possible to do something extremely powerful—which is overpower an adult and your experience with them, using only words,” the comedic actor, 35, said in an interview.

BJ created a trailer for the book, wherein he reads his new type-only tome to a crowd of youngsters in a school auditorium. The result is unbelievably adorable.
